PEARL RIVER, N.Y. — A Bronx woman has been convicted of multiple felonies for using a knife to extort nearly $19,000 from a 78-year-old man while working as his live-in home health aide at a senior assisted living complex in Pearl River.
Delores Anderson, 60, was found guilty by a Rockland County jury of five counts of second-degree grand larceny after a one-week trial before Judge Kevin Russo. Sentencing is scheduled for August 27, 2025.
Anderson worked in the victim’s home from December 2022 through August 2023. Prosecutors said she used intimidation and threats to force the man to write five personal checks to her over two incidents. On May 5, 2023, she allegedly threatened him with a kitchen knife, resulting in two checks totaling $4,082. Then, on July 25, she reportedly held the knife to his stomach and coerced him into writing three more checks totaling $14,890.
In total, Anderson withdrew $18,972 from her account after depositing the checks.
“This defendant not only violated a position of trust in this theft but threatened this elderly victim with a knife in his own home,” said Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh, II.

Prosecutors call conviction a win for senior safety
Authorities say the case is a stark example of abuse by a caregiver placed in a position of trust. Anderson’s actions, including using a weapon to coerce financial transactions, were condemned as both criminal and exploitative.
District Attorney Walsh emphasized his office’s commitment to protecting vulnerable senior citizens from violence and fraud, calling the conduct “intolerable” and vowing vigorous prosecution of similar cases.
Anderson remains in custody pending sentencing.
