A Medford man was indicted Wednesday on multiple weapons charges after investigators uncovered a large-scale ghost gun manufacturing and trafficking operation in his home, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced.

Daniel Probeck, 35, was arrested June 12 following a months-long investigation by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office and Suffolk County Police Department. Authorities recovered more than 112 illegal firearms, 67 suppressors, 12 three-dimensional printers, ammunition, and machinery allegedly used to manufacture untraceable weapons.

“This defendant was not simply a firearms collector, he is alleged to have manufactured and sold illegal firearms,” District Attorney Tierney said in a statement. “I applaud the work of my office and the Suffolk County Police Department on getting this source of illegal weapons off the street.”

Beginning in March, investigators allege that Probeck sold multiple firearms—including three assault rifles—to an undercover officer for cash on several occasions.

A court-authorized search of Probeck’s Medford residence resulted in the recovery of numerous alleged assault weapons outfitted with features banned under New York State law, including telescoping stocks, pistol grips, threaded barrels, and flash suppressors.

On Wednesday, Probeck was arraigned before Acting Supreme Court Justice Richard I. Horowitz on the following charges:

  • One count of criminal sale of a firearm in the first degree, a class B violent felony
  • One count of criminal possession of a weapon in the first degree, a class B violent felony
  • One count of criminal sale of a firearm in the second degree, a class C violent felony
  • One count of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C violent felony
  • Four counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, class D violent felonies

Justice Horowitz ordered Probeck held on $500,000 cash bail, $2 million bond, or $3 million partially secured bond. If convicted on the top count, he faces up to 25 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision.

Probeck is represented by attorney John Loturco and is due back in court on August 5.
