MANHATTAN, NY – A 46-year-old food vendor was held up at gunpoint early Monday morning by two young men who made off with hundreds in cash after a failed attempt to rip open his register, police said.
The robbery unfolded around 1:20 a.m. on August 11 near the corner of Madison Avenue and East 99th Street. According to the NYPD, two unidentified males approached the street vendor’s cart and attempted to forcibly access his cash drawer. When the vendor resisted, a brief struggle ensued.
During the confrontation, one of the individuals pulled a firearm and threatened the vendor, then grabbed approximately $250 in cash before both suspects fled on foot, heading southbound on Madison Avenue. Fortunately, the victim was not injured during the incident.
Police described both suspects as males with dark complexions, believed to be between 14 and 20 years old with medium builds.
The first individual, seen in surveillance footage, was wearing a white T-shirt, gray shorts, white shoes, and a black baseball cap. The second individual was last seen in a white T-shirt, black pants, white shoes, and a black skullcap.
The NYPD released images of the suspects and is asking for the public’s help identifying the pair. The investigation is ongoing.
