PLAINFIELD, NJ — A 23-year-old substitute teacher and youth mentor has been arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and promoting obscene material to a minor, Middlesex County authorities announced Thursday.
Tory James, of Plainfield, was taken into custody on August 15 without incident. Prosecutors allege that James, who served as a substitute teacher at Queen City Academy Charter School and also mentored youth at the Queen City Mentoring Academy day camp, engaged in conduct that led to the serious charges.
He now faces one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child and one count of third-degree promoting obscene material to a child under 18. The details of the allegations have not been released, but officials confirmed that the charges stem from interactions with a minor.
The investigation remains active, and authorities are encouraging anyone with additional information to contact the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
