STATEN ISLAND, NY – Saturday — A 53-year-old FDNY fire inspector was arrested Saturday night for allegedly driving under the influence and refusing a breathalyzer test while off duty, according to police.
Akindiji Fadeyi, a New York City Fire Department employee, was taken into custody around 7:19 p.m. within the confines of the 120th Precinct on Staten Island. He now faces multiple charges, including operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving while ability impaired by alcohol, and refusal to take a breath test.
Details of the arrest, including the circumstances leading up to the traffic stop or whether there was a collision involved, were not immediately released. The NYPD did not indicate if any injuries occurred or if the vehicle was impounded.
Fadeyi was not on duty at the time of the arrest and is currently employed as a fire inspector with the FDNY. The department has not issued a public statement regarding the incident or whether administrative action will follow.
