Gunfire erupts in Lusby tire change shootout suspect still at large
Lusby, MD – What began as a routine tire change turned into a midday shootout in a quiet Lusby neighborhood Tuesday, with deputies now hunting a 19-year-old man believed to have opened fire before fleeing on foot.
Just before noon on Tuesday, Calvert County deputies responded to an abandoned 911 call from the 1100 block of Golden West Way. Moments later, dispatchers were re-contacted by the caller, who reported someone in a passing vehicle had fired shots at them. The caller also admitted returning fire.
Upon arrival, deputies met with Nicholas Derick Dwayne Griffith, 25, and Timothy William White, Jr., 28 — both of Lusby — who told investigators they were outside changing a tire when a dark-colored four-door sedan with tinted windows approached. A front-seat passenger allegedly fired two rounds at them. Griffith responded with a single shot of his own before the car sped southbound down Golden West Way toward Cordova Drive.
Roughly five minutes after the shooting, a nearby homeowner reported a suspicious abandoned vehicle on their property. Surveillance footage from that location showed two individuals fleeing on foot. The car, a dark-colored Ford Focus with Virginia tags, was registered to Khiantae Rai-Vaugh Marquez Robinson, 19, of Lusby.
Investigators quickly identified 20-year-old Asia Ta’liyah Bell as the driver during the shooting. She was later arrested at a residence near the scene. Robinson, believed to be the shooter, remains on the run. Deputies say criminal charges are pending.
