Baltimore man hits $100K jackpot on crossword scratch-off at Linthicum liquor store
Baltimore, MD — A retired UPS worker and longtime rare coin collector just added a six-figure prize to his growing collection — this time in cold hard cash — after hitting big on a $100,000 Crossword scratch-off ticket purchased at a Linthicum liquor store.
The Baltimore man, who only plays crossword-themed scratch-offs, bought the lucky $10 ticket at Whitey’s Liquors on North Hammonds Ferry Road. By the next day, he had scratched it and discovered he had won the game’s $100,000 top prize.
The winner, who remains anonymous, is a self-described numismatist — a term typically used for coin collectors, but also applied to those who collect stamps and currency. He said he has no immediate plans for his prize money and is simply enjoying the surprise payday.
The $100,000 Crossword scratch-off launched August 20 and originally featured nine top prizes. According to Maryland Lottery officials, seven of those $100,000 prizes remain unclaimed.
Whitey’s Liquors will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
