Two men dead in triple-vehicle wreck after Hyundai enters traffic
Georgetown, DE – A Sunday afternoon drive turned tragic when a Hyundai Sonata entered an intersection and triggered a violent three-car crash that left two men dead and several others injured on Redden Road in Georgetown.
Delaware State Police said the collision happened around 3 p.m. when the Hyundai, stopped at the sign on West Robbins Road, failed to remain at the stop and pulled into the path of oncoming traffic. The car struck a westbound Volkswagen Tiguan, causing it to overturn several times before landing on top of an eastbound Toyota Corolla.
The driver of the Toyota, an unidentified man, died at the scene along with his passenger, a 31-year-old Georgetown man whose name is being withheld pending family notification. The impact crushed the smaller vehicle beneath the overturned SUV, leaving both occupants trapped.
The 70-year-old man driving the Volkswagen and his 59-year-old passenger, both from Ocean View, were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The 57-year-old Hyundai driver from Bloomfield, New Jersey, was not injured.
The crash shut down Redden Road for more than three hours as investigators with the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit processed the scene and cleared debris. Troopers continue to examine whether driver error, visibility, or other factors contributed to the deadly chain reaction.
