Speeding driver killed after car overturns and slams into tree in Delaware crash

A high-speed crash sent a car through a fence, into a parked vehicle and ultimately into a tree, leaving a 25-year-old driver dead Friday morning, Delaware State Police said.

SEAFORD, Del. — A 25-year-old Seaford man was killed Friday morning after the car he was driving at an apparent high rate of speed left the roadway, overturned and struck a tree, according to Delaware State Police.

The crash occurred at approximately 6:40 a.m. on Hastings Farm Road, north of Coverdale Road.

Investigators said a Hyundai Veloster was traveling southbound when, for reasons still under investigation, it ran off the east side of the roadway.

The vehicle struck a chain-link fence, then hit a parked vehicle in a private driveway before overturning and crashing into a tree.

The driver, identified only as a 25-year-old man from Seaford, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released pending notification of his family.

Hastings Farm Road remained closed for an extended period while troopers investigated the crash and cleared the scene.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing the investigation.
