Calvert County man wins $31K Racetrax prize after post-gym pit stop
GLEN BURNIE, MD – A quick stop at a 7-Eleven after a workout turned into a $31,118 payday for a Calvert County man who hit big playing the Maryland Lottery’s Racetrax game with a Superfecta Box bet.
The Southern Maryland resident placed his wager on August 29, selecting horses 9, 7, 11 and 12 in a Superfecta Box — a bet that covers all possible combinations of four selected horses finishing in the top four positions. The result: a $31,118.30 win, which he claimed at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore on October 6.
The man, a father of two and an IT professional, said he’s played that combination for years. He typically bets on long-shot numbers like 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, and 7 — a strategy many Racetrax regulars use when placing 10-cent Superfecta Box bets that can lead to high returns despite long odds.
Though he missed a straight Superfecta — which would have paid more than $200,000 — the boxed version still delivered a sizable prize. The win comes as a welcomed boost for the player, who said he plans to use the money to pay bills and take his family on a vacation later this year.
The winning ticket was purchased at the 7-Eleven located at 7753B Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard in Glen Burnie. As a result of selling the ticket, the Anne Arundel County retailer receives a $311 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.
