Subway sexual assault suspect punches woman in Canal Street station attack

Manhattan, NY – A woman was attacked inside a lower Manhattan subway station Saturday afternoon after an unidentified man allegedly groped her and punched her in the face before fleeing.

The 37-year-old victim was climbing the staircase of the Canal Street “A” train station around 2 p.m. when the man, walking down in the opposite direction, grabbed her breasts over her clothing.

A brief argument followed before the suspect struck the woman in the face, leaving her with a cut.

She declined medical attention at the scene but suffered minor injuries from the assault, according to officials.

The assailant ran off and has not been found.

Suspect description
Authorities described the suspect as a male last seen wearing a black jacket, black sweatshirt, white T-shirt, black pants, and white and black sneakers.

Investigation ongoing
Police are reviewing station surveillance footage and canvassing nearby areas to identify and locate the suspect. No arrests have been made.
