Man dies weeks after being struck by truck in Northeast DC
WASHINGTON, DC — A 53-year-old man has died from injuries sustained in a crash that occurred in late September, and the investigation into the fatal incident remains ongoing, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
On the evening of Monday, September 29, at approximately 8:18 p.m., Fifth District officers responded to a crash involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Montana and Rhode Island Avenues, Northeast. When officers arrived, they found an unconscious but breathing adult male who had been struck by a vehicle while crossing the roadway.
Emergency personnel transported the victim to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The preliminary investigation revealed the man had been hit by a 2009 Dodge Ram towing a cargo trailer. Police determined the vehicle was traveling north on the 1400 block of Montana Avenue NE and struck the pedestrian while turning left onto the 1300 block of Rhode Island Avenue NE. The driver remained at the scene.
After two weeks of treatment, the victim, identified as John Robert Holland of Southeast DC, died from his injuries on Monday, October 13.
Detectives from the Major Crash Investigations Unit are continuing to review the case, and it has not yet been announced whether any charges will be filed.
