Wrong-way pickup slams into SUV on NJ Turnpike killing four in Salem County
CARNEYS POINT, NJ – Four people were killed early Saturday morning when a white pickup truck traveling the wrong way on the New Jersey Turnpike collided head-on with another vehicle in a devastating crash, according to the New Jersey State Police.
The fatal collision occurred around 12:40 a.m. near milepost 1.3 in the southbound lanes of the Turnpike in Carneys Point Township, Salem County. Investigators say a white 2021 Dodge Ram pickup was heading northbound in the southbound lanes when it struck a black Mazda CX-5 traveling correctly in the southbound direction.
The impact resulted in the deaths of four victims. Their identities have not yet been released as authorities work to notify next of kin.
State Police have not confirmed whether the driver of the Dodge Ram was among the deceased or whether impairment is suspected. The investigation remains ongoing.
