Teen suspect arrested in second Greenbelt shopping center shooting case tied to earlier armed robbery

GREENBELT, MD – A second teenage suspect has been arrested in connection with the Greenway Shopping Center shooting that shook the community late last month, and investigators say the same individual was already wanted for a previous armed robbery.

Greenbelt Police confirmed Thursday that the juvenile male, who is being charged as an adult, was taken into custody overnight. He is the second suspect arrested for the October 28 shooting, which occurred in the busy shopping plaza on Greenbelt Road. The arrest came just days after the first juvenile suspect was apprehended.

Authorities say this latest arrest also closes in on an earlier case. The teen had an open warrant tied to an armed robbery reported on October 4. That robbery involved a weapon and took place in Greenbelt, though officials have not yet released additional details about that incident or whether it is connected to the shooting.

The suspect was transported to the Department of Corrections in Upper Marlboro, where he now faces multiple adult charges related to both the shooting and robbery cases.

The October 28 shooting at the Greenway Shopping Center rattled residents and businesses, prompting increased patrols in the area. Police have not said whether anyone was injured during the incident, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Officials have not released the teen’s name due to his age but confirmed he is being prosecuted as an adult under Maryland law.

The Greenbelt Police Department continues to investigate the full circumstances of both incidents and has not ruled out additional arrests.
