GAITHERSBURG, MD – A 30-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a violent triple stabbing in Derwood that left his mother, grandmother, and a Good Samaritan injured last week.
Montgomery County Police identified the suspect as Octavio A. Estevez, who was taken into custody Thursday in Spotsylvania, Virginia.
All three victims were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Attack began inside family home
Police said the stabbing occurred around 9:35 a.m. on November 3 in the 10 block of Indian Hills Court. Investigators determined Estevez was inside his home when he attacked his mother, prompting his grandmother to intervene.
When a neighbor heard the disturbance and tried to help, the suspect allegedly stabbed him as well before fleeing the scene.
Victims expected to recover
Responding officers found two women and one man suffering from multiple stab wounds. Paramedics transported all three to nearby hospitals, where they were treated for injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Suspect tracked to Virginia
Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department’s 1st District Investigative Section worked with the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office to locate Estevez. He was arrested on November 7 without incident.
Authorities said Estevez remains in custody in Virginia pending extradition to Maryland, where he faces multiple first-degree assault charges.
Police commend community response
Investigators praised the actions of the bystander who attempted to protect the victims, calling his response “an act of courage that likely prevented further harm.” Police have not released a possible motive for the attack.
