Gunman opens fire on man sitting in car in Far Rockaway

QUEENS, NY – A man sitting inside a parked car was shot multiple times late Saturday night in Far Rockaway.

The shooting happened around 11:20 p.m. in front of 289 Beach 14th Street.

Police said a 31-year-old man was struck in the chest and abdomen when an unidentified suspect opened fire before fleeing on foot.

The victim was driven by private means to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital and later transferred to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.

Investigators are searching for the shooter, who ran northbound on Beach 14th Street following the attack.

No arrests have been made, and the motive behind the shooting is still under investigation.

Detectives are canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from nearby buildings. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline.

The area surrounding Beach 14th Street and Nameoke Avenue saw a police presence into the early morning hours as evidence markers were placed near the vehicle involved.

Residents in the area reported hearing several gunshots followed by the sound of a car door slamming before emergency vehicles arrived.

Police have not yet released the name of the victim pending family notification.

The NYPD’s 101st Precinct is leading the investigation, focusing on whether the shooting was targeted or random. Detectives are working to determine if the victim and shooter knew each other.
