CLEAR SPRING, MD – State investigators are examining the cause of a devastating early morning house fire in Washington County that claimed the lives of three adults and saw two family dogs rescued from the scene.

Fire crews were called to the 13800 block of National Pike around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday to find a home engulfed in flames.

Deputy State Fire Marshals confirmed that the victims include one adult male and two adult females.

Massive response to early morning blaze

Units from the Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Company and surrounding departments battled the heavy fire as it spread through the home. During a primary search, firefighters located three victims inside who were pronounced dead at the scene. Two dogs were safely removed from the residence and transferred to the Washington County SPCA for care.

The fire marshal’s office said suppression and overhaul operations continued for several hours as investigators began working to determine the cause and origin of the blaze.

Investigation ongoing with multiple agencies

A team of Deputy State Fire Marshals, including K9 Quinn, is leading the investigation in cooperation with the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division and Forensic Science Division. Officials confirmed the probe remains active and that coordination with local law enforcement is standard procedure for any fatal fire.

Authorities said the scene will remain secured throughout the day as evidence is collected and analyzed. Additional updates are expected once preliminary findings are complete.
