Powerball shopper hits $1 million as wave of lottery wins sweep New Jersey
TRENTON, NJ — A quiet stop at a Rio Grande grocery store turned into a million-dollar moment for one lucky Powerball player, leading a string of seven major lottery wins across New Jersey totaling more than $2.1 million in under a week.
From Lakewood to Jersey City, winners claimed six-figure payouts across multiple games, including Powerball, scratch-offs, and Fast Play draws. The biggest single win came on Wednesday, when a Powerball ticket sold at Starns Village (ShopRite) in Rio Grande matched enough numbers to score a $1 million prize.
The second-largest prize was claimed in Jersey City, where a $250,000 Crossword scratch-off purchased at Lucky Deli on MLK Drive delivered a quarter-million-dollar payout on Friday. Just two days earlier, a Crossword Bonanza ticket sold at Wawa #441 in Barnegat earned its buyer $400,000.
Also on Friday, the Fast Play Progressive: Diamond Spectacular game produced another major winner, awarding $131,817 to a player who purchased the ticket at Howard Johnson on Hooper Avenue in Toms River.
Two additional Powerball tickets hit on Saturday. One netted $100,000 through the Jackpocket app, while another sold at Wawa #376 on Route 206 in Vincentown brought in $50,000. Combined, the Saturday prizes alone added $150,000 to the week’s total.
Earlier in the week, on Tuesday, a $10,000 Jackpot Millions ticket sold at 6-12 Food Store in Freehold quietly added another win to the growing list. Ocean County, which includes Toms River, Lakewood, and Barnegat, accounted for three of the seven major payouts.
All prizes listed were for tickets claiming $10,000 or more between November 24 and November 30.
