Cherry Hill man fatally struck while crossing busy road

Pedestrian fatally struck while crossing Haddonfield Road in Cherry Hill

CHERRY HILL, NJ – A Cherry Hill man was killed Monday evening after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Haddonfield Road, according to police.

The fatal collision occurred at approximately 6:41 p.m. on December 8 near the intersection of Haddonfield Road and Yale Avenue. Preliminary findings from the Cherry Hill Police Department indicate that the pedestrian, identified as 51-year-old Gerald S. Yashinsky Jr., was attempting to cross Haddonfield Road when he was hit by a vehicle traveling northbound.

Emergency personnel, including officers, firefighters, and EMS responders, arrived on the scene quickly and administered medical aid. Yashinsky was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the driver of the vehicle remained on-site and is cooperating with the investigation. No other injuries were reported.

Haddonfield Road was shut down in both directions for the on-scene investigation, which was conducted by the Cherry Hill Police Department Traffic Safety Unit.

The incident remains under investigation with assistance from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and the Office of the Medical Examiner. Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information to contact the Cherry Hill Police Department.
