Bethesda player wins $111,971 FAST PLAY jackpot after nearly tossing ticket
Bethesda, MD – A Montgomery County resident nearly threw away a six-figure winning ticket before realizing they had just hit the $111,971 FAST PLAY progressive jackpot on a $5 Cash Combination game.
The Bethesda player purchased the ticket in late November while keeping an eye on the growing jackpot. After scanning it, the message on the terminal left them confused—it didn’t say “see retailer” as expected, and they briefly believed it was a non-winner.
The player admitted to crumpling the ticket slightly before scanning it again several times. When uncertainty remained, the player showed the slip to a cashier, who quickly confirmed it was a jackpot winner.
A closer inspection revealed a matched combination with the words “progressive jackpot” printed below. The player immediately stored the ticket in a secure location and later claimed the prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore on December 8.
The winner, who plays all Maryland Lottery games except Racetrax, said the windfall will be used to eliminate personal debt.
The winning ticket was purchased at Maple Beer and Wine, located at 8125 Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda. The retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the jackpot-winning ticket.
