State Police recruits deliver holiday cheer with Toys for Tots drive at academy

Albany, NY – The holiday spirit was on full display at the New York State Police Academy this week as members of the 218th Basic School loaded up stacks of donated toys for the annual Toys for Tots drive.

The recruits collected and packed hundreds of gifts to be distributed to children and families across New York, continuing a long-standing State Police tradition of community service during the holiday season.

Recruits join effort to support families in need

The Toys for Tots initiative, run in partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, helps ensure that children in need receive gifts during the holidays. This year’s effort at the State Police Academy brought together trooper recruits, instructors, and staff who worked together to gather donations and prepare them for delivery.

Photos shared by the department showed recruits filling boxes with toys of all kinds — from dolls and games to sporting equipment — before loading them onto transport vehicles bound for regional distribution centers.

Troopers continue tradition of giving

State Police officials said the annual drive reflects the department’s broader commitment to serving New York communities both on and off duty. The donated toys will be distributed through local Toys for Tots chapters to brighten the holidays for families across the state.
