Camden-Wyoming, DE – Delaware State Police are investigating a deadly three-vehicle crash that left an 84-year-old man dead after his SUV struck a tree and caught fire Saturday evening in Camden-Wyoming.
The crash happened around 6 p.m. on Westville Road between Allabands Mill Road and Mallard Drive. According to investigators, a Chevrolet Suburban traveling eastbound behind a RAM 2500 towing a trailer attempted to pass in a no-passing zone. During the maneuver, the Suburban sideswiped a westbound Ford Fusion, then collided with the front driver’s side of the RAM.
After impact, the Suburban veered off the south edge of the road, re-entered the eastbound lane, and then left the north edge of the roadway, crashing into a tree before bursting into flames. The driver, an 84-year-old Camden-Wyoming man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
The drivers of the other two vehicles—a 31-year-old Dover man operating the RAM and a 37-year-old Hartly man driving the Fusion—were not injured.
Westville Road was closed for approximately five hours while the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated and cleared the scene. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
