A 100X symbol transformed their scratch-off routine into a seven-figure win
MARYDEL, MD – A Delaware couple who regularly crosses back into Maryland to buy Lottery tickets saw that routine pay off when a $20 scratch-off purchased near the state line revealed a 100X symbol and delivered a $1 million top prize.
The former Maryland residents, identified by the Maryland Lottery as “Mr. and Mrs. Spry,” live in Kent County, Delaware, but told Lottery officials they frequently return to Maryland to purchase scratch-offs.
Their winning 100X the Cash ticket came from Walkers Grocery Store at 18230 Henderson Road in Marydel, a Caroline County community near the Maryland-Delaware line.
“Mr. Spry” told Lottery officials he scratched the ticket and repeatedly checked what he was seeing after uncovering a 100X symbol paired with a $10,000 prize.
“I was stunned. It was the shock of my life,” he said.
The couple returned to Maryland on Wednesday to claim the $1 million prize.
“Mr. Spry,” a Maryland Eastern Shore native and avid angler, told Lottery officials he plans to use the winnings to start a business.
Walkers Grocery Store will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the top-prize ticket.
The $20 100X the Cash scratch-off launched in January with seven $1 million top prizes. The Delaware couple claimed the sixth, leaving one $1 million top prize unclaimed, according to the Lottery.
The game also has one unclaimed $50,000 prize, two unclaimed $10,000 prizes and additional prizes ranging from $20 to $5,000.
