MONROE TWP., N.J. – A 26-year-old woman from Franklin Township was killed Saturday morning after her vehicle lost control on icy pavement and overturned into a small body of water along West Malaga Road, police said.

The crash was discovered around 9:10 a.m. near Bracken Drive after a passing motorist spotted the overturned vehicle and called 911. According to investigators, the woman was driving a 2025 Kia Sportage eastbound on West Malaga Road when the vehicle began to sideslip and rotate roughly 650 feet west of Bracken Drive. The SUV left the roadway, flipped, and came to rest upside down partially submerged in water.

Emergency crews responded and pronounced the driver dead at the scene. She was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Investigators said icy road conditions likely played a role in the crash, which occurred before road crews had fully treated the area.

The Monroe Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau is continuing to investigate. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Ptl. Nick Racobaldo at 856-728-9800 ext. 549 or by email at nracobaldo@monroetwppd.org.
