Charlottesville Man Arrested in Connection to Pantops Shopping Center Robberies

Charlottesville, VA — A 64-year-old man has been arrested following two robberies at the Pantops Shopping Center on the morning of January 2, 2026.

According to the Albemarle County Police Department, officers responded around 10:20 a.m. to reports of robberies at two businesses: the ABC Store on the 300 block of Pantops Center and the Taco Bell on the 100 block of Riverbend Drive.

In both cases, the suspect reportedly demanded cash and made threats that he had a weapon. He left the area by car with an undisclosed amount of money.

Following an investigation, police identified the suspect as Stephen T. Agner of Charlottesville. He was taken into custody at his home with help from the Charlottesville Police Department.

Agner has been charged with:

  • Two counts of robbery
  • Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

He is being held without bond at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
