WASHINGTON, D.C. – The New York GOP has put Governor Kathleen Hochul on notice, saying the resignation of Tim Walz was just the “first step” in a coordinated effort against four Democrat governors nationwide.
President Donald Trump sharply criticized Minnesota Governor Tim Walz in a social media post Monday, accusing him and others of corruption and linking his decision not to seek re-election to ongoing state fraud investigations.
In a post shared on his official account, Trump alleged that Walz “was caught redhanded” in connection with what he described as large-scale theft of taxpayer funds, while offering no direct evidence to support the claim. The post also mentioned Representative Ilhan Omar and made inflammatory references to Minnesota’s Somali community.
The remarks followed Walz’s announcement that he would not run for another term, a decision that drew strong reactions from both state and national Republicans. Members of the Minnesota House GOP’s Fraud and Oversight Committee had earlier issued a statement blaming Walz for what they called “a fraud epidemic,” citing findings from legislative audits and oversight hearings.
The New York Republican Party also weighed in, posting online that Walz’s departure marked the “first step” in confronting what they described as widespread Democratic “mismanagement” across several blue states. “One down, three to go,” the post read, referring to Governors Gavin Newsom of California, J.B. Pritzker of Illinois, and Kathy Hochul of New York.
Walz has not responded publicly to the recent criticism but has maintained that his administration worked with auditors and law enforcement to address fraud in state programs, calling the issue “a bipartisan challenge that demands accountability at every level.”
