Millsboro drug bust uncovers sawed-off shotgun and mushrooms in high-stakes raid

MILLSBORO, DE — The quiet calm of a Millsboro neighborhood was shattered early Monday morning as heavily armed law enforcement teams stormed a home on Friendship Road, seizing a cache of drugs and weapons and arresting two local men accused of running an illegal narcotics operation from inside the residence.

Douglas Clay, 66, and Kenneth Peters, 59, were taken into custody without resistance after Delaware State Police executed a search warrant tied to an ongoing narcotics investigation. The raid was carried out by the Sussex County Drug Unit, the Governor’s Task Force, and the Special Operations Response Team.

Inside the home, troopers uncovered approximately 8.41 grams of psychedelic mushrooms, a small amount of methamphetamine, trace amounts of crack cocaine, and a digital scale with drug paraphernalia. More alarming was the discovery of a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun with ammunition and two large fixed-blade knives.

Clay, who has prior felony convictions, now faces a list of serious charges including possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a destructive weapon, and multiple controlled substance violations. He was booked at Troop 4 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $19,000 secured bond.

Peters was charged with two felony counts of possessing a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, along with drug distribution and possession offenses — including tier 2-level controlled substance violations. His bond was set at $48,700 cash.

Both men remain in custody pending court appearances, while the investigation into the full scope of their alleged distribution network continues.
