Team effort turns bored scratch-off buy into $250K Ohio lottery win
Findlay, OH – What started as a way to pass the time at home quickly turned into a major payday after a Hancock County couple uncovered a $250,000 prize on a low-cost scratch-off ticket.
Kyle of Findlay said he bought several scratch-offs, including a $5 Jackpot Party ticket, simply out of boredom and brought them home to play with his wife, Amy. After scratching several tickets without success, Amy noticed something unusual on one of them and thought it might be a winner.
Kyle initially doubted it and said he likely would have thrown the ticket away. After checking the back of the ticket and spotting a party hat symbol, the couple realized it could be a significant prize.
They took the ticket to Pak a Sak #53, located at 1100 Trenton Avenue in Findlay, where it was confirmed they had won $250,000.
After mandatory state and federal tax withholdings of 26.75 percent, the couple will take home $183,125. They told lottery officials they plan to use the money for savings and investments.
The Jackpot Party scratch-off game has overall odds of 1 in 4.18, with more than $23 million in total cash prizes. As of February 3, five jackpot prizes remain unclaimed.
The Ohio Lottery reported it has contributed more than $34 billion to education since 1974.
