Tennessee visitor leaves Maryland with $100000 Powerball prize
Baltimore, MD – A holiday visit to Maryland ended with a six-figure surprise for a Tennessee man who bought a Powerball ticket ahead of a massive December drawing and later discovered it was worth $100,000.
The Maryland Lottery said the former Maryland resident purchased the ticket while visiting family after noticing the Powerball jackpot had climbed to $1.8 billion for the Dec. 24 drawing. After returning home to Tennessee, he checked the ticket several days later and was prompted to contact the Lottery.
After confirming the winning numbers, the player realized he had matched four of the five white balls along with the red Powerball, qualifying for a third-tier prize. By adding the Power Play option, the base $50,000 prize was doubled to $100,000.
The winner claimed his prize Feb. 9 at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. Lottery officials said the ticket was sold at the Dash-In store located at 2575 Riva Road in Annapolis.
The player told officials he plans to share part of the winnings and keep the remainder.
