Delmar man arrested after armed home invasion and knife attack, police say

DELMAR, DE – Delaware State Police have arrested a 35-year-old Delmar man accused of breaking into a home and attacking the resident with a knife during a violent home invasion early Sunday morning.

According to investigators, troopers were called around 2:10 a.m. on February 9 to a residence on the 34000 block of Bi-State Boulevard for a report of an assault involving a weapon. Before officers arrived, they learned that the suspect, identified as Mario E. Padilla Caballero, had forced his way into the house and was still inside when the 40-year-old male homeowner returned.

Police said the victim confronted Padilla Caballero, who is known to him. During the struggle, Padilla Caballero allegedly cut the victim with a knife before fleeing on foot as troopers arrived. He was quickly apprehended nearby without further incident. The victim sustained minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.

Suspect faces multiple felony charges

Padilla Caballero was taken to Troop 5, where he was charged with several offenses including first-degree home-invasion burglary causing physical injury, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, second-degree assault, aggravated menacing, terroristic threatening, criminal mischief, and resisting arrest.

He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $56,201 cash bond.
