SOMERSET BORO, PA — A $1 million Pennsylvania Lottery scratch-off ticket was sold at a Sheetz in Somerset County, delivering the game’s top prize to a yet-to-be-identified winner.

The winning Jackpot Scratch-Off ticket was purchased at Sheetz, 118 South Rosina Avenue in Somerset Boro, according to the Pennsylvania Lottery. The retailer will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the $1 million-winning ticket.

Jackpot is a $20 scratch-off game that offers top prizes of $1 million. Lottery officials did not release information about the winner.

Scratch-off tickets are distributed randomly, and neither the Lottery nor retailers know where top prizes will be sold until a winning ticket is claimed.

The Pennsylvania Lottery directs all proceeds to programs that benefit older residents. Since ticket sales began in 1972, the Lottery has contributed more than $37.2 billion to fund transportation, care services, prescription assistance and local services including senior centers and meals.

The Pennsylvania Lottery operates as a bureau within the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue.

For one Somerset County player, a $20 purchase at a local Sheetz has now turned into a $1 million payday.
