State police say active warrant led to arrest and alleged seizure of large quantities of narcotics
ONEONTA, NY — A routine patrol through the City of Oneonta led state troopers to a man wanted on an active warrant, and investigators say the encounter ended with the seizure of hundreds of grams of suspected narcotics and multiple top-level felony drug charges.
Members of the New York State Police Violent Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Team (VGNET) and Community Stabilization Unit (CSU), with assistance from the City of Oneonta Police Department, arrested 42-year-old Michael J. Young on Wednesday, July 22.
According to New York State Police, troopers were patrolling the city shortly after 7 p.m. when they spotted Young, whom they recognized as the subject of an active arrest warrant issued by the City of Oneonta Court.
During the investigation, troopers allegedly discovered approximately 229 grams of suspected cocaine, 87 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 12 grams of suspected fentanyl in Young’s possession.
Young was charged with first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class A-I felony; second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class A-II felony; two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, Class B felonies; and fourth-degree criminal possession of a narcotic drug, a Class C felony.
Following his arrest, Young was processed at State Police Oneonta before being transported to the Otsego County Jail for centralized arraignment.
The charges are allegations, and Young is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
