PHILADELPHIA, PA – Philadelphia police say a suspect wanted in the Germantown neighborhood murder of 19-year-old Michael Allen has been captured, more than seven months after the fatal shooting shocked the community.
Authorities announced Tuesday that 20-year-old Tayvone Bibbs was taken into custody by the Fugitive Task Force on February 17 in connection with the July 3, 2025, killing. Bibbs was extradited from a Montgomery County correctional facility to Philadelphia, where he now faces formal homicide charges.
The shooting unfolded around 5:31 a.m. that morning, when officers responded to a report of a person with a gun on the 200 block of East Rittenhouse Street. When police arrived, they found Allen lying on the roadway with a gunshot wound to the face.
Emergency personnel pronounced Allen dead at 5:47 a.m. at the scene. Investigators have not yet disclosed a motive for the killing, which has remained under active review by the department’s Homicide Unit since the summer.
Break in months-long investigation
Bibbs’ arrest marks a major development in a case that has lingered for months without resolution. Detectives say collaboration between local and county law enforcement led to the suspect’s capture. A booking photo has not yet been released.
