PHILADELPHIA, P.A. – Valentine’s Day turned violent in Philadelphia Thursday night, as police reported two separate shootings that left one man dead and a juvenile wounded in incidents just over an hour apart.
The first shooting unfolded around 6:43 p.m. on the 3200 block of Wharton Street in South Philadelphia. Officers from the 17th District arrived to find a juvenile male suffering from a gunshot wound to the ankle. Medics transported him to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where he was listed in stable condition. No arrests have been made, and detectives with the Shooting Investigation Group are searching for a suspect and motive.
Roughly an hour later, at 7:59 p.m., gunfire erupted again — this time on the 1500 block of West Boston Street in North Philadelphia. Responding officers from the 22nd District found an adult man shot in the chest on the roadway. Police rushed him to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:21 p.m.
Homicide detectives investigating deadly shooting
Investigators with the Philadelphia Police Homicide Unit have taken over the case, but so far, no arrests or motive have been announced. Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased victim pending family notification.
The shootings add to a growing number of violent incidents across the city, which has continued to struggle with persistent gun crime despite ongoing police and community efforts.
