Stafford driver jailed after DUI crash into ditch as license plate theft reported hours later
Stafford, VA – A driver was taken to jail after deputies found a vehicle in a ditch near an old retention pond early Tuesday, while hours later another resident reported a stolen license plate in a separate incident, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.
The DUI arrest occurred Tuesday at approximately 2:46 a.m. in the 200 block of Brooke Road. A deputy responded to a report of a single vehicle accident and located a vehicle that had run off the roadway into a ditch and an old retention pond area.
The driver was identified as Leslie Rickmon, 36, of Stafford. Deputies reported that Rickmon displayed signs of intoxication at the scene. Rickmon declined to participate in field sobriety tests and refused to submit a breath sample.
Rickmon was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence, refusal to submit to a breath test, and reckless driving. Rickmon was remanded to the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
In a separate incident later that day, Deputy S. M. Eastman responded at approximately 1:50 p.m. to Nugent Drive for a reported larceny. A victim told deputies that someone had stolen a license plate from one of their vehicles.
No suspect information was released in the larceny case, which remains under investigation.
