As blizzard approaches Brick, police issue safety and parking warning

February 21, 2026

Brick Township, NJ – With a powerful winter storm bearing down on the Jersey Shore, Brick Township police are urging residents to prepare for high winds, whiteout conditions, and significant coastal flooding expected to impact the area throughout the weekend.

In a public advisory issued Saturday, the Brick Township Police Department warned that deteriorating weather conditions could disrupt travel, cause power outages, and flood low-lying neighborhoods, particularly along the barrier island.

Officials emphasized that once snow begins to accumulate, all vehicles must be removed from public streets under Township Ordinance § 288-29. Vehicles left parked on roadways during snowfall are subject to ticketing and towing at the owner’s expense, as they interfere with plowing operations and prevent the Department of Public Works from clearing residential streets.

Residents living on the barrier island and in flood-prone sections of the township are being strongly urged to move vehicles to higher ground immediately. Significant coastal flooding is anticipated for the duration of the storm.

Property owners are also reminded they are responsible for clearing snow and ice from sidewalks bordering their property within 24 hours after precipitation ends, in accordance with township code.

Towing enforcement and flood concerns highlighted

Garbage and recycling collection scheduled for Monday has been postponed due to the approaching storm. Township officials said updated schedules will be announced once conditions improve.

Widespread Power Outages are expected because of high winds. Residents are advised to have fresh batteries and flashlights ready and to report outages directly to JCP&L by calling 1-888-LIGHTSS, texting OUT to 544487, or visiting the utility’s website. Police stressed that residents should not call the department to report loss of electricity.

To keep emergency lines open, officials directed residents not to contact police for snow plowing timelines. All plowing inquiries should be directed to the Brick Township Department of Public Works at 732-451-4060.

Police reminded the public to call 911 only for active emergencies or to report downed power lines.

Communication lines reserved for emergencies only

Officials said limiting non-emergency calls during the storm will allow first responders to focus on life-safety incidents as conditions worsen across the township.
