TINTON FALLS, NJ – A heartbreaking situation in Monmouth County has led the Monmouth County SPCA to ask the community for donations after several dogs and a cat were found in distress when their elderly owner was hospitalized. The animals, left without care for days, were discovered this past weekend inside a Tinton Falls home after police were alerted to concerns about their welfare.
According to the SPCA, this was not a case of animal cruelty but one of declining health and isolation. As the owner’s medical condition worsened, her pets suffered as well — lacking proper nutrition, grooming, and medical attention. One of the dogs, gravely ill, will be humanely euthanized to end her suffering.

The other animals, including several senior dogs and one cat, are now safe in SPCA custody. They are receiving veterinary care, behavioral support, and the compassion of shelter staff working to restore their health.
SPCA calls for community support

The Tinton Falls Police Department and Monmouth County Animal Control helped remove the animals from the home and transport them to the shelter. Officials say cases like this underscore the importance of checking in on elderly or ill neighbors — a simple act that can prevent suffering for both people and pets.
The SPCA’s donation appeal will help cover the mounting costs of veterinary exams, diagnostics, and long-term care for the surviving animals. Funds will also support grooming, enrichment, and specialized nutrition for those in recovery.

A reminder of compassion and community
