HACKENSACK, N.J. – A parolee convicted in a fatal 2017 Hudson Valley crash has been arrested on robbery and burglary charges after Hackensack Police allegedly caught him fighting with a security guard and a vehicle owner inside a luxury apartment building’s parking garage.
According to the Hacksensack Police Department, officers responded to the Excelsior II on Prospect Avenue shortly before dawn on Aug. 16 and found 33-year-old Matthew D. Sindone involved in an altercation with two people.
Police said Sindone was allegedly carrying items taken from burglarized vehicles inside the garage.
Suspect arrested, jailed
Hackensack police charged Sindone with robbery and burglary before transporting him to the Bergen County Jail. A Superior Court judge later denied his initial request for pretrial release; however, he no longer appears in the Bergen County Jail inmate roster.

Sindone has been on parole since November 2024 after serving more than six years in a New York state prison for aggravated vehicular homicide. Prosecutors said he pleaded guilty after running a red light while under the influence of Xanax, causing a crash in New City, New York, that killed Neil and Alina Block.
Recent arrests before Hackensack incident
Court records show Sindone was also arrested in Bergen County twice in May. Authorities charged him with trespassing in Wallington on May 19, and three days later he was arrested by Maywood police on suspicion of driving under the influence, resulting in multiple traffic summonses.
The Hackensack investigation remains active. Criminal charges are allegations, and Sindone is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
