CUMBERLAND, MD – A reported assault in progress on Springdale Street escalated into multiple arrests Tuesday after officers arrived to find two women fighting outside a residence, according to the Cumberland Police Department. The confrontation, which police say began inside the home, led to burglary and assault charges, along with both suspects being held without bond.
Officers responded to the 400 block of Springdale St. on Tuesday, March 31, where they “observed two females actively fighting” upon arrival, the department said in its press release. The individuals were identified as Elizabeth Mae Price, 42, of Cumberland, and Tonya Denise Orellana, 53, of Westernport.
Incident on Springdale Street
After separating the two, officers interviewed those involved and witnesses. Police said they learned that “Orellana had been walking in the area and entered Price’s residence without permission. A physical altercation ensued, continuing outside, where officers observed the fight upon their arrival,” according to the Cumberland Police Department.
Both women were arrested at the scene. Orellana was charged with burglary in the third degree, second-degree assault, and affray. She appeared before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance and “was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center” and “is currently held without bond,” police said.
Price was also taken into custody and charged with second-degree assault and affray. Police noted that “at the time of her arrest, Price also had an active warrant for her arrest in Washington County, MD, for violation of probation.” Following her initial appearance, she was also remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center and held without bond.
Separate assault summons served
In a separate case, Cumberland police said a criminal summons was served Tuesday, March 3, on Teresa Lynn Taylor, 43, of Cumberland, in connection with an earlier incident at a local business.
The summons stems from an alleged assault that occurred March 24 at a Willison Place establishment. Police said, “it is alleged that Taylor assaulted another subject after an altercation inside the establishment.” Taylor was served the summons and released pending trial in District Court.
