Final jackpot hit shuts down Virginia scratcher after $1M win
Blackstone, VA — A retired Virginia woman has claimed a $1,000,000 lottery prize, marking the final top win in a scratch-off game that is now being closed.
The anonymous winner purchased the Bonus Star Millions ticket at Hardaway’s Race-In, located at 214 North Main Street in Blackstone. After scratching the ticket, she initially questioned the result before confirming the win with a family member.
Virginia Lottery officials said the prize represents the third and final top prize in the game, triggering its closure in accordance with lottery policy.
The winner chose the one-time cash option of $500,000 before taxes instead of receiving annual payments over 30 years. She said she plans to use the money to purchase a new car.
Bonus Star Millions, a scratch-off game identified as #2335, offered odds of 1 in 489,600 to win the top prize and 1 in 3.78 to win any prize.
Lottery proceeds continue to support education across the state, with more than $901 million contributed in the last fiscal year. Nottoway County, where the winner resides, received over $2.9 million in funding.
