Overnight chaos as two shootings unfold hours apart in Albemarle

Gunshot victim crashes car as second burst of gunfire rattles neighborhood hours later

Albemarle County, VA — A driver suffering from a gunshot wound crashed a vehicle late Wednesday night, just hours before another round of gunfire echoed through a nearby neighborhood in a separate incident.

Officers responded around 9:40 p.m. to the 2300 block of Peyton Drive for a reported vehicle crash. When first responders arrived, they discovered the driver had been shot prior to the crash.

Investigators determined the victim was wounded in the area of Four Seasons Drive before driving and crashing. The individual was transported to UVA Health and remains in critical condition.

While officers were investigating that scene, additional gunfire was reported around 3:30 a.m. near Inglewood Drive and North Berkshire Road. Responding officers recovered multiple shell casings, but no injuries or property damage were reported.

Police said preliminary findings indicate the two incidents are not connected.

The investigations remain ongoing as detectives work to determine what led to both घटन.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000. Residents with security cameras are also encouraged to register them through the department’s NeighborLink system to assist with potential evidence collection.
