Ocala player cashes in after lucky ticket from Publix delivers life changing prize

OCALA, Fla. — A Florida woman’s $20 lottery purchase turned into a seven-figure payday after a scratch-off ticket bought at a Publix supermarket delivered a $1 million prize.

Angelique Hernandez, 44, of Ocala, claimed a $1 million prize from the Florida Lottery’s GOLD RUSH LEGACY Scratch-Off game.

Lottery officials said Hernandez chose to receive her winnings as a one-time lump-sum payment of $640,000.

The winning ticket was purchased at Publix, located at 10301 SE U.S. Highway 441 in Belleview.

According to the Florida Lottery, Hernandez claimed her prize at Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee.

GOLD RUSH LEGACY is a $20 Scratch-Off game that launched in April 2024.

The game features four top prizes of $10 million and 20 prizes worth $1 million. Lottery officials said the game offers more than $894 million in total cash prizes and carries overall odds of winning of 1-in-2.97.

The Florida Lottery noted that Scratch-Off games accounted for approximately 74% of ticket sales during fiscal year 2024-2025.

Since its inception, Florida Lottery Scratch-Off games have awarded more than $72.2 billion in prizes and created more than 2,510 millionaires.
