Virginia Driver Arrested After Maryland Traffic Stop Uncovers Cocaine, Meth, LSD and Cash, Sheriff Says

CUMBERLAND, Md. — A Virginia man faces drug trafficking and impaired driving charges after a traffic stop in Allegany County led deputies to seize multiple types of suspected narcotics and a large amount of cash, authorities said. James Robert Hunt of Stephens City, Virginia, was arrested Friday after deputies stopped his vehicle in the Georges Creek area and launched a driving under the influence investigation.

The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office said the case quickly escalated from a traffic enforcement stop into a major narcotics seizure involving several illegal drugs commonly linked to distribution.

Traffic Violations Led to Drug Investigation

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies conducted the stop on Friday, May 29, after observing multiple traffic violations.

During the encounter, deputies noticed signs that Hunt appeared impaired and began a DUI investigation. Authorities ultimately arrested him for driving under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered what investigators described as a significant quantity of suspected drugs, along with packaging materials commonly associated with narcotics distribution and a substantial amount of U.S. currency.

Multiple Drug Types Seized

The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office said the seizure included a wide range of suspected controlled dangerous substances.

Investigators reported recovering suspected cocaine, methamphetamine, LSD, MDMA, ketamine, psilocybin mushrooms, cannabis and various prescription medications.

The variety of drugs recovered, combined with the packaging materials and cash, led investigators to pursue distribution-related charges in addition to possession offenses.

Authorities did not release the exact quantities of drugs or the amount of money seized.
