Police say shots fired inside Northwest residence led to major weapons charges and a recovered firearm
WASHINGTON, D.C. — What began as reports of gunfire echoing through a Northwest neighborhood has ended with a suspect behind bars, a handgun recovered, and a string of felony charges tied to a shooting inside a residence, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Police announced the arrest of 35-year-old Isaias Moriera Castillo of Northwest Washington in connection with a shooting that occurred earlier this month in the city’s Third District.
According to investigators, officers responded at approximately 6:18 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, to reports of gunshots in the 2600 block of 15th Street Northwest.
When officers arrived, they discovered property damage but no reported victims.
As detectives continued their investigation, they determined the gunfire had occurred inside a residence at the location.
Following the investigation, police arrested Castillo on Thursday, May 28.
He has been charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun), Destruction of Property, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Receiving Stolen Property.
Authorities said a handgun was recovered at the time of the arrest.
Police have not released additional details regarding the circumstances that led to the shooting or whether anyone was targeted during the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
