Seven-figure Powerball prize lands at Staten Island gift shop

One lucky ticket matched five numbers in Monday night’s drawing, turning a routine purchase into a seven-figure win

STATEN ISLAND, NY — Someone who bought a Powerball ticket at a Staten Island card shop is waking up $1 million richer after matching five numbers in Monday night’s drawing and landing one of the game’s second-tier prizes.

The New York Lottery announced that a second-prize-winning ticket worth $1 million was sold for the June 1 Powerball drawing at Naz Cards & Gifts Inc., located at 4346 Amboy Road in Staten Island.

The winning ticket matched the five white balls drawn during the game but did not match the Powerball number, making it a second-prize winner.

Lottery officials have not released information about the winner, and it remains unclear whether the ticket holder has come forward to claim the prize.

Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. The game is played by selecting numbers from a field of one to 69, while the Powerball number is drawn separately from a field of one to 26.

The $1 million ticket adds another major win to New York’s growing list of lottery prizes awarded across the state.

The New York Lottery remains the largest and most profitable lottery in North America. During fiscal year 2024-2025, the lottery generated $3.6 billion to support public schools throughout New York State.

Officials encourage all players to check their tickets carefully after every drawing.

Anyone experiencing gambling-related problems, or who knows someone who may need assistance, can find resources through NYProblemGamblingHelp.org, by calling New York’s confidential HOPEline at 1-877-8-HOPENY (1-877-846-7369), or by texting HOPENY (467369). Standard text messaging rates may apply.
