62-year-old suspect taken into custody days after Northwest Baltimore shooting on Bateman Avenue, authorities say
BALTIMORE, MD — A Baltimore man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with a late-May shooting that left a 55-year-old man wounded inside a Northwest District home, according to city police.
Investigators say 62-year-old Melvin Talbot of Baltimore was taken into custody on June 1 in connection with the May 30 shooting in the 3900 block of Bateman Avenue.
Police allege the incident unfolded around 5:30 p.m. when officers responded to a report of gunfire at a residence in the Northwest District. When officers arrived, they found a 55-year-old man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that police described as non-life-threatening.
Following the initial response, Northwest District shooting detectives launched an investigation and identified a person of interest in the case.
Authorities later moved to arrest Talbot, who was transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility after being taken into custody.
He has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, according to police.
The investigation began on May 30 when officers responded to Bateman Avenue after reports of a shooting inside a home. Detectives remained on the case over the following days as they worked to identify and locate the suspect.
Police have not released additional details about what led up to the shooting or the relationship between the suspect and the victim.
