Investigators say a rapid response and quick detective work led officers to a suspect just a short distance from the scene
PATERSON, N.J. — A Paterson home invasion investigation moved quickly from emergency call to arrest after police identified and took a suspect into custody less than an hour after the reported break-in, authorities said.
According to the Paterson Police Department, officers responded at approximately 1:19 p.m. on June 4 to a reported home invasion in the 300 block of Van Houten Street.
Responding officers secured the scene and launched an investigation while detectives from the Major Crimes Division and members of the Crime Scene Investigation Unit joined the effort.
Police said investigators quickly developed information that led them to identify and locate a suspect a short distance from the residence.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident and later positively identified during the investigation.
Authorities identified the suspect as Rishee Jackson, 47, of Paterson.
Jackson is charged with first-degree home invasion, third-degree theft and third-degree terroristic threats.
The case is being prosecuted by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.
Under New Jersey law, first-degree home invasion charges carry potential penalties ranging from 10 to 20 years in state prison upon conviction.
The charges are accusations, and Jackson is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
