Sports card theft suspect arrested nearly two years after $14K marketplace burglary

A man accused of stealing more than $14,000 in sports cards from a York County marketplace has been arrested after investigators recovered some of the stolen collectibles.

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the burglary of a York County marketplace where more than $14,000 in sports cards were stolen, according to the Northern York County Regional Police Department.

Police announced that members of the department’s Criminal Investigation Division arrested Dontae Rashier Hoover on Friday, July 10, for his alleged role in the Nov. 5, 2024, burglary at Morning Sun Marketplace, located at 5309 Lincoln Highway in Jackson Township.

According to investigators, Hoover entered a building at the marketplace and stole multiple sports cards valued at more than $14,000. Police said some of the stolen cards have since been recovered.

The burglary occurred at approximately 1:01 a.m. on Nov. 5, 2024.

Investigators said the owner of the vendor space received a motion sensor alert and drove to the marketplace. Upon entering the building, the owner reportedly saw a suspect wearing a white mask and a blue Nautica jacket. The suspect fled on foot after spotting the property owner.

Police said the suspect had forced entry into a display case before taking the collectible sports cards.

Hoover was arraigned on charges including burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, retail theft, possessing instruments of crime and criminal mischief.

The charges are allegations, and Hoover is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
