Maryland Lottery player scores $50K on brand new game

A Montgomery County man’s habit of buying newly released scratch-off tickets paid off with a $50,000 top prize just weeks after the game debuted.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — A Silver Spring man won a $50,000 top prize on the Maryland Lottery’s new Multiply Your Money scratch-off after purchasing the ticket during a stop at a local store.

The Montgomery County resident claimed the prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters on July 13, accompanied by family members.

A longtime lottery player, he said he enjoys playing bingo and scratch-off games and regularly buys newly released tickets.

His latest purchase came after work when he stopped at KW Beer & Wine on Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring. Before leaving the store, he purchased a $5 Multiply Your Money scratch-off, which was introduced on June 17.

The player scratched the ticket immediately and, believing he had a significant win, asked the store owner to scan it for confirmation.

The ticket was confirmed as a $50,000 top-prize winner.

The winner said he plans to use part of the money to help people in need and put a down payment on a home for his family.

KW Beer & Wine, located at 8513 Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring, will receive a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize-winning ticket.
