A 15-year-old is accused of assaulting a scooter rider before failing to steal the vehicle and fleeing, police said.
WASHINGTON, DC — A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after police say he assaulted a scooter rider during an attempted carjacking in Northwest DC but was unable to operate the scooter before fleeing the scene.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 2:52 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, in the 1400 block of Irving Street, Northwest.
Police said the victim was seated on a scooter when the suspect approached, assaulted the victim, and attempted to take the scooter. Investigators said the suspect was unable to operate the scooter and fled without it.
On Tuesday, July 14, officers arrested the 15-year-old juvenile male from Northeast DC pursuant to a DC Superior Court custody order.
The juvenile was charged with carjacking. Because he is a juvenile, police did not release his identity.
